The Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux 2023 is the highly regarded second label of the iconic First Growth estate, Château Margaux. Released during the 2023 En Primeur campaign, this vintage is noted for its high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and a refined, classic profile described as “very Château Margaux” in its elegance and floral perfume.
- Aging: Aged for 20 months in 60% new oak.
- Aroma: Abundant floral perfume (violets and roses), cassis, redcurrants, and hints of licorice, spice, and graphite.
- Palate: Medium-bodied and silky with fresh red fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a saline, mineral-tinged finish.
Tasting notes: A bright ruby colour. The nose is bursting with lively red fruit that is lightly creamy but still fresh. There is a hint of cigar leaf underneath, but the fruit takes centre stage. This follows on the palate, where gentle tannins allow a zesty core of fruit to shine through. High tones of cherry blossom, amaro and blood orange see a little baked vanilla, but there is a little cool blackcurrant here too.
