When two great grape varieties meet and the spark is ignited. This is Luce. Here, in fact, the perfect harmony between the structure and elegance of Sangiovese meets the roundness and softness of Merlot, creating a perfect marriage. Luce, after all, is the flagship wine of Tenuta Luce della Vite, the Frescobaldi family’s Montalcino estate. Luce is the first wine to be produced from this interesting blend. That is why it is labelled simply Toscana IGT. And it is one of the world’s best-loved Tuscan reds, rewarded and re-awarded every year by the most severe international wine critics. But let’s proceed in order. The 2018 vintage began with a beneficial period of rainfall that rebalanced the water reserves that had been severely tested the previous year, and allowed the vines to sprout quickly and evenly, helped by the mild spring temperatures. The summer was dry, with no excessive temperatures, ideal conditions for perfect grape growth. Such positive conditions have therefore resulted in a wine, Luce 2018, characterised by a dark ruby red colour. The nose is a prelude of aromas of black fruits, blackberries and violets, with marzipan and black pepper enriching the bouquet. In the mouth, however, the wine is soft and voluminous, well balanced by a solid tannic structure. Particularly pleasing is its long, fresh finish.
