Nicknamed “The Phoenix,” the 2018 vintage marks an exceptional year in the history of Chateau Angelus, an emblematic Premier Grand Cru Classe A of Saint-Emilion, located on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. The vegetative cycle of the vine was quite distressed in the beginning, a source of great concern for the vine growers, until mid-July. The climatic conditions that followed and continued until the date of the harvest allowed the grapes to ripen fully, while maintaining a nice acidity and developing velvety tannins.
2018 was also the first vintage in the organic conversion cycle that the property is currently undergoing.
Through its unique identity, the Carillon d’Angelus 2018 expresses all of the characteristics typical of its exceptional terroir of origin. First, this wine reveals a deep color. The bouquet seduces the nose with its intense aromatic expression, resplendent with bright, fresh fruit and developing notes of wild berries and cherries. The palate already displays a superb texture and density, structured by palate-coating tannins, stretching into a very persistent finish.
Carillon d’Angélus was first released in the 1987 vintage. Over the years it has acquired its very own identity. Reflecting the high, rigorous standards of our teams, the wine is a variable blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon selected from different Saint-Emilion terroirs. The vinification and ageing techniques are adapted with precision to its particular style.
Taste notes:
The colour is clean and dark, and the nose is bursting with aromas of wild berry fruit, black cherries and freshness. The palate is layered, dense with lovely tannins and has a long finish.
