Embodying luxury and refinement, the Odyssey Cabernet is one of Katnook’s two limited release wines of exceptional quality and it’s one of 32 wines listed in the ‘Outstanding’ category of the Langton’s V, Classification of Australian wine. Lifted cassis, plum, tobacco, mint and cedary oak aromas provide a charming introduction to this deep garnet brick red wine. A beautiful, rounded wine with the lot, it presents concentrated dark berry, cassis and deluxe oak power with hints of tobacco and earth, ripe, velvety tannins and cedary oak. Intense, regional and varietal signatures combine with firm tannins to ensure careful cellaring will be rewarded.
Tasting notes:
Katnook’s top Cabernet is always oaky, and the 2006 is no exception, featuring plenty of brown sugar and caramel aromas. Vanilla and cedar dominate the palate, forming an attractive wooden shell over cassis fruit. Drink it now if you like that sort of full-on youthful oak, or hold it a decade until it develops a soft, rich patina of age.
