Chateau de Pez is perhaps the oldest Bordeaux wine making estate in St. Estephe. De Pez was created in 1452 by Jean de Briscos and like every Medoc vineyard, passed through a countless array of owners until it was purchased in 1995 by Jean-Claude Rouzaud. Rouzaud is best known for the Roederer Champagne house, the makes of the famous, high end Champagne Cristal along with several other important investments in Bordeaux. Since the estate was first purchased, Rouzaud made significant investments in improving the Left Bank vineyards and the wine making facilities at Chateau de Pez.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Dark fruit, currant, blackberries. Leather, tobacco. Soft for a young Bordeaux
Palate: Big flavor initially. Bold and reasonably bright. Slight oak, thyme with a strong white pepper undertone. Palate follows the notes on the nose.
Body: Full bodied with a slight fruit finish. Not as big as other left bank Bordeaux, but stands it’s own.
Finish: Dry and tannic with a striking touch of fruit that is not typical of a Bordeaux.
