Château Latour is one of Bordeaux’s – and the world’s – most famous wine producers. It is situated in the southeast corner of the Pauillac commune on the border of Saint-Julien, in the Médoc region. Rated as a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has become one of the most sought-after and expensive wine producers on the planet, and produces powerfully structured Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines capable of lasting many decades.
In great vintages, the power and energy of Château Latour’s wines enables them to continue to develop for several decades with ease. The bouquet and impressions on tasting gradually evolve, becoming increasingly complex, ultimately reaching a peak, after which the tannins soften and then the wine slowly declines. Beyond the pleasure of drinking them, these wines can produce powerful feelings and unforgettable moments. Château Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.
- Aging: Matured for 18–20 months in French oak, typically using 60–70% new wood.
- Nose: A classic “Pauillac” nose featuring blackcurrant (cassis), leather, and minerals, supported by notes of cedarwood and cigar box.
- Palate: Medium to full-bodied with a “velvety” texture. While initially powerful and concentrated, it has softened into a seamless, elegant profile with fine-grained tannins.
- Finish: Long and expansive, showing a persistent “saline” or chalky minerality through to the end.
- Drinking Window: It is currently at peak maturity and is expected to drink beautifully through 2030 or beyond if stored well.
