Les Forts de Latour 2016 is the highly-regarded second wine of Château Latour, a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate in Pauillac, Bordeaux. The 2016 vintage is widely considered exceptional, with critics describing it as a “clear highlight” and an “impeccably balanced” expression of the estate’s terroir
- Ageing: Matured for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels (50% new).
- Nose: Intense aromas of blackcurrants, wild berries, graphite, cedar, and tobacco leaf, with floral notes like violets.
- Palate: Medium to full-bodied with a deep, layered core. It is noted for its “iron fist in a velvet glove” structure—power balanced by silky, powdery tannins and vibrant acidity.
- Finish: Long, mineral-tinged, and mouthwatering
- When to Drink: While it is beginning to open up and is approachable now after decanting, it is built for long-term cellaring. Experts suggest a peak drinking window between 2023 and 2040.
- Service: Best served at a cool cellar temperature of 16–18°C (60–64°F) to maintain its freshness and lift
